We here at the podcast we started digging in to help. One of our strong suits is research and finding information. We also have had to make some changes and readjustments in how we make money in our lives as well. Let’s face it, lock down is hard. The pandemic has changed everything. If you work in a service industry, you are especially hard hit. We are going to try to help. We intentionally sought out affiliates and services that will help you solve this problem (don’t worry, they give us a few pennies as well). Not all the links are affiliate links. We sought out and are sharing what we feel is the best content to help solve the current problems you may have in trying to create your own paycheck and make money online.

On the bright side of the current situation, the changes that we all are making hopefully will serve us well in the future and help to take some of the risk out of your money making situation. Ready? Let’s go….

How to make money online

We are going to give several options and you can pick one that resonates with you. You need to make money now. To let the world know you are out there and what your skills are, you need a website. This does not have to be a multi-page flashy site. A one page site will suffice to start. This is generally called a lead page.

Think about what skills you have been using to get a paycheck before the lock down. For example, if you were in the service industry, you have amazing people skills. So good in fact, someone was paying you each week to use those skills for their business. Now use those skills to make money for yourself.

Narrow it down to make a plan. Write down your skills and put stars next to the ones that you actually love doing each day. Don’t forget to add the skills from your hobbies. Yep, you can use those hobby skills to generate a paycheck as well turning them into masterclasses. Put them on the list and start making those stars. The skills with the most stars are the ones you will use to build your income generation around. You now have identified both what you love and what you are good at. Let’s dive deeper.

First, if you need money right now try Fiverr. A common misconception about Fiverr is that you can only make $5 on Fiverr, this is how it started , however now you will find Pros and experts charging what they should charge for their services. Fiverr is a marketplace for freelancers to sell and market their skills to help complete projects that others are working on. You can use Fiverr 2 ways:

(1) One is to sign up and hire a Pro to make your website, logo, lead page etc to showcase your special skills and talents. You need to put your skills and talents to work for you. Having a high quality website is super important to let the world know you are in business and ready to get the job done..

(2) The other way to use it, is to sign up to Fiverr as a freelancer. Let people know of your skills, bid on projects and become a freelancer yourself. You won’t be listed as a Fiverr Pro until you have been validated and have worked on several projects with stellar reviews. (which is why we recommend using the Pros to work on your website, logos and projects). You will have access to the marketplace that is looking for your skills. Cruise around, see what others are charging for the same skill. Read about how to invoice, set your prices and make sure you get paid after the job is completed. Due your due diligence, when starting something new so you can avoid all the gotchas. When you hire the pro to make your website, logo or landing page pay attention to how the process works from the other side.

If you need to retrain, do this:

Maybe you made your list of skills and turns out you really just need to retrain. No worries, in the digital age you can retrain for many fields online (especially during lock down). Try to focus on fields that allow you to work from home. Skills that give you that flexibility. Now let’s look into where to find those re-training options. Udemy has a huge selection of courses to choose from.

Choose your new skill and start learning.

Choose your new skill and start learning.

If you are leaning towards learning machine learning and coding, you should also check out Coursera’s courses as well. The trick to Coursera’s courses are to scroll down to find that small “audit the course” button after you enroll, to get access to the course for free. You will not have access to all the projects and practice material if you audit in some courses. This can degrade the learning without it, so choose wisely. In machine learning Stanford is the top of the game and Stanford offers a machine learning course on Coursera. You pay for the certificate.

If you want a certificate from Stanford itself and not from Coursera check out this link ( current course cost $1,595.00 and subject to change). When it comes to machine learning and coding it is all about projects and your coding portfolio. So concentrate on building your portfolio.

Make your first eBook

O.K. now you are skilled up, have your website, logo and lead page. Make your first project in your journey to self sufficiency, creating an eBook. See our blog post on how to create an eBook, it contains some great info on how to begin. After that, don’t stop there, create and record your first one hour video masterclass and sell it on your lead page. You are well on your way to making money on your own terms without being dependent on a paycheck. Getting paid to the level of your efforts. We will keep making content to help you on your journey and share what we have found helpful. Stay tuned!
