Podcasting During A Pandemic

The show has weathered some very strange storms during the pandemic. Cindy and Sam had to work out how to podcast when miles away and unable to get together in the studio. “ It was really a challenge to figure out how we were going to continue when we could not be together” said Sam. The challenge was not trivial. We found out early in the podcast that we needed to be face to face to have that meaningful, real conversation. “We had tried to podcast remote at the start and found the conversation was stunted” continues Sam, “ We just couldn’t make it work remotely and decided we had to be in the studio”. Then the pandemic lockdown happened. We had to decide if we were going to continue to podcast and how.

The lightbulb came when we talked on the phone and saw that our conversation flowed the same as in person. We found a way to capture our phone call, essentially, in order to make it work. We started podcasting again. Talking about sourcing food and all the challenges of lockdown and how we were overcoming them. The show was back on track.

Then, sudden health challenges began to affect our loved ones. We had to stop podcasting to deal with death, heart attacks and all manner of health challenges. Podcasting relies on making a show with frequency. You have to keep making shows or people forget that you are a podcast.

We had to have another deep conversation. We decided that we make the podcast because we love making the podcast and if we have to pause to maintain mental health. Then so be it. Those who listen to the podcast because we are real and authentic will still be there, even if the shows come less frequently. We carried on. Talking about mental health during this time.

Now, we are focusing on helping our listenership through economic challenges of the pandemic. We are seeing the economic issues that the pandemic has brought. People losing jobs. Unemployment cut off. No new job prospects. Devastating. We decided to start using the blog to do what we can to help our listeners figure out how to make an income while at home. This has become a new focus.

“The world has changed and even if we are able to get a vaccine at some point -things will have a new normal. Figuring out what that is and what that looks like is the challenge we all face. We want to help sort that out. Not just for ourselves but for our listeners”. We are seeing that we as a people have to find a way to earn income without relying on an outside job. We see how fragile that is. We started researching and trying to figure out what that is and what that looks like. Trying different things and sharing what works and what is totally garbage.

If we can save our listeners time. If we can help guide them to what works, then we made a difference. The truth is, there is no quick fix, no instant money. What we have found that works requires a great deal of time and effort to set up and build. However, time is something we all have a ton of right now. I hope you enjoy coming along on this journey. We will continue to face each new challenge and share a path forward. Together :)

Headed to YouTube LA!

The invite has arrived in the mail and we are thrilled to go to YouTube’s space here in LA. YouTube has opened it’s doors for an invited list of podcaster’s to come to YouTube space in LA for a night of fun, camaraderie and learning. We are so excited to have been invited and we plan to show you a ton of pictures on social media and come back to share what we learned with you….our community. Keep your eye on the feeds we will be blasting out the good times!

The Rush Before the Launch

Getting the podcast off the ground has been a true labor of love. “You don’t really realize how many moving parts there are to a podcast, until you have to get them all moving in the same direction!” says Sam. We reach her in the podcast recording studio along with Cindy, getting ready to record a show. They both have a look of anticipation and readiness before the mike goes live and they start to chat. Suddenly, we are transported like a fly on the wall to listening to the things women say when they get together for girl’s night. You know, all the things you want to say but can’t because you will be judged. They say them…out loud… and give us all permission to say what we really feel. And no, it’s not just you feeling that way. Truly a fresh breathe of grown up air and women empowerment on the podcast scene. Got 10 minutes rushing to work or the gym? check them out…you will be glad you did!
